What are you seeing on the Muskiz camera?

La Arena is a powerful beach break nearly a kilometer long. To understand what you see on the screen, look at the three main zones:

  • Left (Pobeña): The area next to the estuary and stairs. It is usually more protected from “Gallego” (NW) wind and offers long lefts.
  • Center: Variable peak zone. Check if the waves are closing out (bars) or if there are open “doors”.
  • Right (Zierbena): The area next to the harbor. It usually picks up a lot of swell.

Keys to surfing in Muskiz

  • The Wind: Being so open, it suffers a lot with North wind. Look for South (S) or light variable wind conditions for a clean session.
  • Tides: It generally works better at low tide or mid-tide. At high tide, the wave tends to rebound (backwash) and loses power, especially on the shore.
