Here you can watch Ereaga beach in Getxo live, thanks to Getxo City Council’s public camera. Use it to check the sea, the wind and how busy the beach is at a glance before leaving home.
Ereaga, the sheltered beach of the Abra
Ereaga lies inside the Abra, the bay at the mouth of the Bilbao estuary, between Las Arenas and the Old Port of Algorta. Because it is so protected from the swell, the water is usually calm: it is a beach for swimming and walking rather than surfing. Only the biggest north-westerly storms bring surfable waves into this area, so the camera is very useful to see whether it is worth it that day or whether you are better off heading to an open beach.
Looking for waves? Sopelana is a few minutes away
When Ereaga is flat, the beaches open to the Bay of Biscay, such as Arrigunaga or Sopelana, usually have waves. At Peña Txuri Surf Eskola, on Arrietara beach, we offer lessons for every level with all the equipment included.
