Surfclasses

How long are the classes?

We offer packages of 5 and 10 classes or single classes each class lasting 1.5 hours with the exception of classes organized by groups (12+ people) that can choose class lengths of 1 hour, 1 hour and 30 minutes, or 2 hours.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE IN A SURF CLASS?

We offer courses for every age and level from 6 years (4 years in day camps) to teens and adults. Groups will be formed based on age and level.

WHEN ARE THE CLASSES?

At Peña Txuri Surf School, our doors are open all year to offer beginner, improvement and competition courses.

Course schedules vary seasonally:
From January 1st to June 17th: 2 classes every day, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon (times depend on tide and conditions).
From June to September: minumum of 8 daily classes starting at 08:00 and ending at 21:00.

From October to May: 2 daily classes, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon (times depend on tide and conditions).

HOW DO I MAKE A RESERVATION?

Reservations and/or inquiries about availability can be done through the online reservation system or by contacting us on the web or by telephone.

HOW MANY STUDENTS PER INSTRUCTOR?

The groups are formed with a maximum of 6 students per instructor, ensuring personalized instruction and safety.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

The price includes: wetsuit and surfboard, instructor, and liability and accident insurance.

WHAT LANGUAGE ARE THE CLASSES TAUGHT IN?

The classes can be taught in Basque, Spanish, English and French depending on each client’s needs and preferences.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE CLASS?

You only need to bring a swimsuit, flip flops and a towel. We will lend you all of the necessary gear for the class (wetsuit and surfboard).

WHO WILL BE MY INSTRUCTOR?

All of our instructors, besides having great experience practicing and teaching surf, are certified by the Basque Country Surfing Federation (Federación Vasca de Surf). Our team is prepared to offer any type of course from beginner courses to improvement and competition.

Public transport

The school is located next to Arrietara Beach, in the Biscayan town of Sopela. To arrive by public transport from Bilbao, Getxo or Plentzia…take Bilbao Metro Line 1 and get off at Larrabasterra.
From the metro station, there are two options to get to the school. You can walk from the station to the beach (about 15 minutes) or catch the shuttle bus which leaves from the bus stop by the metro exit and will take you right to the beach.

WHERE CAN I KEEP MY THINGS WHILE I AM TAKING THE CLASS?

Our changing rooms have shelves where you can store your belongings. If you would like to leave valuables, please store them at reception.

Surf camps

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MY CHILDREN IN THE CAMP?

All of the participants will be supervised at all times, from their arrival, until their departure, by licensed instructors with great experience in sports education. The instructors will be in charge of supervising and organizing all of the camp activities.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE REQUIRED?

From 4 years and up.

HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE DROP-OFF AND PICKUP?

The families have a half and hour window before and after the scheduled check-in and check-out time to pick-up and drop-off the children. We have bus service to pick up and transport camp participants. The transportation can be identified by a poster with the Peña Txuri Surf Eskola logo.

TRANSPORTATION

We have a round-trip transportation service. Choose your stop along the different routes.

WHAT WILL THE KIDS EAT?

We offer a dining service with a varied, homemade menu (first course, second course and dessert) in the neighboring Sopelmar Restaurant in Sopelana

DO I HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO SWIM?

It isn’t required to know how to swim, all of our activities are adapted to the abilities and needs of each participant.

WHAT DO THEY NEED TO BRING TO CAMP?

– Beach towel.
– 2 Swimsuits.
– Flip flops and sneakers/trainers.
– 1 sweatshirt.
– 1 raincoat.
– Sunscreen.
– Food for the Friday excursion.
